In
spring, trees put forth new leaves. Everyone can feel a breath of spring. Worms
burrow into fruits, because springtime fruit is very sweet. Flower beds are
aflame with color. The flower look like precious stones in spring! When I think
of spring, I think of soft sunlight, beautiful scenery and the short spring
vacation. Spring vacation is so
short, but it is so much fun. After spring, summer follows.
In
summer, many people gravitate to the
seaside. In the summer, I go to the swimming pool to escape the summer heat. In
summer, watermelon is very delicious I like summer clothes because they are as
light as air and comfortable. I often put on fluffy clothes in summer. During
the summer holiday, I usually go to different academies. I am so busy during
summer holidays but I still like summer!
In
fall leaves come down from the trees. It is really romantic. Fall is the best
season for reading! Fall is more important for farmers, because fall is the
harvest season. We are Oriental so cereals are important to us. We are grateful
for farmers. In fall, maple trees are very pretty. Everybody enjoys of them. In
fact, I do not really like the fall because I am usually more stressed in the
fall. After fall winter follows.
When
I think of winter, I think of pure, white snow, lovely snowmen and hot food!
Winter has a special day. It is Christmas! I love winter! Christmas is a very
exciting and fun day. My friends and I exchange presents. We are happy to be
together. I have many memories of winter: making snowmen with friends and
having snowball fights. It’s so much fun!
I
think spring, summer, fall, winter all have their strong points. We need to
protect our environment before we destroy nature. We need to love nature and
preserve it! Don’t hurt the earth and love every living thing.
About
Four Seasons Of Korea

There are four seasons in Korea; Spring, summer,
fall, and winter. The four seasons are very distinctive and bring us beautiful
scenery.
Spring days get longer and warmer. There are new
leaves on the trees. Flowers begin to bloom, too. Rain makes the grass green
and helps the flowers grow. Nature wears a new clothes in many colors-green,
red, yellow, blue, white, purple and pink. The flowers are very beautiful
especially the sunflowers, It is called “Benediction of life” by many people.
Summer is an unpleasant season to me. It is hot
and long. People go swimming in summer. The watermelon is very luscious.
Everyone always wants another slice. It is called a “Source of strength” by
many people.
Fall is my favorite season of them all, because
fall is not very hot nor cold. I am more comfortable in cold weather. I can eat
chestnut in the fall People often say “Fall is the season for reading” So many
people carry books and read in beautiful settings. I want to travel in the fall.
It is called the “Season of harvest” by many people.
Winter days are short and cold. The days get dark
early in winter. Winter is also the season for family reunions. Christmas is
one of the most important holidays. When we think of Christmas, many people
think of Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and snowmen. I look forward to Christmas
every winter. Everybody is happy on this day. On Christmas, many people prepare
food and presents. In America, many people have parties. Thanks to Christmas
many people are happy to God. So it called by “The start of the end” by many
people.
Winter

How would you answer if someone asked you what three
things you like to do in winter, and what three things you don’t like to do in
winter? Everyone probably has three things they like to do or don’t like to do in
winter. If you want to know what three things I like and what three things I
don’t like more specifically, then continue reading the next paragraph.
There are three things that I like to do in
winter: going skiing, getting lots of money on New Year’s Day, and going to
warm countries for travel. My first thing is skiing during the whole winter
break because there are no good sports that we can do in winter except for
skiing. It makes my legs healthy and it is lots of fun! My second thing is getting
a lot of money in New Year’s Day because I can buy anything that I want. I
think I like this the most. Last but not least, my third thing is go to warm
countries just for travel. I think this would be good trip in winter because it
is really cold in Korea. Maybe Guam would be a good place to visit in the
winter. However those three things are the best things that I like to do in the
winter.
On the other hand, I have three things that I
don’t like to do in winter. I don’t like to go out; I don’t like to study
during break time; and I don’t like to have snowball fights with children. I
don’t like to go out because it is really cold in the winter and it annoys me
to go outside. It is really good to stay at home and play on the internet in
cold weather. Secondly, I don’t like to study during winter break. Doesn’t that
sound annoying to you? Because of that, I can’t go skiing that often. I don’t
like to play in the snow with children. It is really boring to have snow ball
fights with my little cousins. It I get hit by snow from my little cousins, they
think it’s really fun, but actually it is boring. Those three things are what I
like least about the winter.
Those are three things that I like to do in
winter and three things that I don’t like to do in winter. My first thing that
I like to do is go to ski, it gets rid of my stress from study. My second thing
that I like to do is get lots money on New Year’s Day. It makes me to be a
wealthy person. My third thing that I like to do is go to warm countries. I can
relax on that trip and it can also help me get rid of stress from studying. My
first thing that I don’t like to do is going outside in the cold weather, then
I don’t have to worry about having a cold. My second thing that I don’t like to
do is studying during winter break. Lastly, I don’t like to play in the snow
with little kids. It is so boring. This is my description of winter.
Winter

When I think of winter, I imagine a lot of
beautiful things. A yard heaped up with snow, dazzling white and wonderful
winter nights Christmas and so on... I like winter best. When it's winter, a
day comes that we have all been really waiting for. It's "Christmas Day!"
And the new beginning of the year is winter, so I think winter is the Family's
day. Some people feel that winter is a cold and bleak season. However, because
of winter, we stay at home for a long time with our families. Love will probably
bloom in our families. For these reasons, I like winter very much.
There are for many sports in winter: ski,
snowboard, skating, etc. Sports like swimming can be enjoyed every four seasons
but sports like skiing and snowboarding can only be enjoyed in winter. I love
winter because those things can only be done in the winter.
Now at last there comes the winter I really miss. The weather is getting cold. I get very excited when I think about walking along the snowy streets with my friends. I expect that I will spend this winter being happy. I hope this Christmas comes quickly. I want to enjoy this winter very much.
Winter

There are four seasons in Korea. My best favorite season is winter!! Every winter I always feel so good. I don’t know why? Maybe it is because every winter has X-mas and we can see snow. I like winter very much.
I don’t think anybody hates snow. The snow can make us happy. What can we do in the snow? We can go skiing, snowboarding and sleighing. We can make snowmen and have snowball fights. The snow was so clean that we could even eat it but nowadays I fell so sad that we can not eat it because it gets dirty. Sometimes I really miss that time. Winter has so many other attractive qualities. However, sometimes heavy snow or blizzards cause traffic jams or disasters like avalanches.
I like eating foods that come out in winter time. I especially like street foods that they sell in the street: smoked sweet potatoes, smoked chestnuts, hot spicy rice cakes, fish cakes and so on~!!
We have a big party in the winter. One of them is the Christmas party; the other one is the New Year’s party. I can play with my friends until midnight at these parties. Most of all, our winter vacation is the longest in the year. I will spend my winter vacation traveling. I will visit my relatives abroad and having free time.
Coming Winter

The cold wind is blowing and the leaves are
falling. It means that the winter is coming. I think this winter is coming even
faster than any other winters. This fall is so short. I’m going skiing with my
best friend who finished exams. I want to see white snow. I’ll graduate school
soon. I don’t have much time to have fun with my friends. I would go anywhere
with them for this vacation. I remember them from a boarding house. We had
snowballs fights, which might look childish to others. Five and a half years
passed. I am in third grade and ready to graduate. I want to do what I want in
this winter vacation. Of course, I have to go college and I need to study. But
it is my last school vacation and I want to make special memories. This winter I
think it is okay for me to play with my friends. I had better go to the graves
of my grandpa. I don’t have time to go there because I am always busy. I want
to visit where my grandma lived. There is a river in front of the house. I want
to see it, too.
I have only one grandma. When I was young my
grandma and grandpa loved me so much. I was so nervous when they weren’t home.
I have a place where I want to go with my grandma. We live in Wonju now, but a
long time ago, my grandma came from Japan to Korea, she went to Masan the first
time. I heard that she lived there and that she liked that place. She is quite
old now. That makes my heart ache… I know, such is life. I want her to be happy.
Anyway… I expect to spend my winter like this. I must go somewhere with my
lovely family and friends.
Last
Summer
Vacation

Let me talk about this past
summer vacation. Life for me was awful for three weeks. Everyday I overslept,
played with the computer, and watched TV. This was all I did. I was determined
to write a diary for improving my
life style during the vacation.
I thought that I could examine and change my life style a little through
writing a diary. I hesitated to write a diary at first because I was not sure
that I could do it without omission. But, now it seems that my life is better
than before through writing a diary.
After I wasted half of my holidays without meaning, I started to
worry about holiday tasks. Nevertheless, I put them off from day to day. It was
especially hard for me to deal with my English assignments, and my Ethics and
Arts homework. I felt bitter against my teachers for these subjects, but I had
to do the work.
I don't regret these things now - I didn’t finish what I wanted to
do. I played all the time during the vacation. I think I played to the
utmost... - Frankly speaking, until now I hadn’t relaxed as much as I did
during this vacation.
Anyway, second semester will start after a few days. I intend to
go back to my quiet life like before but I have to get through the current
mess.
Winter Food In Korea

I think there are many delicious foods in Korea.
Especially on the street, there are many kind of snacks that we can eat easily.
Let me introduce a snack you can enjoy in cold weather. I hope this is useful
to you.
First,
carp bread!
We call it “boongeo bbang” because it looks like
a carp. There are sweet, hot red bean dregs in crisp bread. You should be
careful that you don’t burn your mouth.
Second,
boiled fish sausage! (ohdeng)
It is snack we can find most easily in cold
weather. It is served on a stick and boiled in the hot soup. The soup is
delicious and it can warm you up. When you go out in cold weather, don’t forget
to stop and try it.
Third! Chinese pancakes stuffed with sugar!
These are made by putting a spoon of tasty,
spices sugar and peanut in dough and pressing it flat. You can make it home as
well. My close friend always makes it and gives it me when I visit her.
Last, boiled rice cake!
This is a dish of rice cake mixed boiled fish
sausage and vegetables with seasonings of thick soy paste mixed with red
peppers, sugar and so on. You can add boiled eggs to it according to your
preference. Let me tell you this recipe. Buy rice cakes for boiling and cut
them into bite-size pieces. Soak them in hot water for a while until they are
tender. Cut the boiled fish sausage into good-sized pieces. Let’s make the
seasoning. Pour water into a frying pan or pot, and heat it up. Put a couple of
thick say paste mixed with red peppers to make a soup. Season with sugar and so
on. Put thin strips of carrot and lettuce in it, put prepared rice cake and
broiled rice cake in the soup. Mix it well so that it is marinated. Add boiled
eggs and a coil of noodles, and it may be more delicious.
I think they are very delicious winter foods in
Korea.
Korean Food Kimchi

If
someone asks what typical Korean food is, most Koreans will say Kimchi.
Needless to say, Kimchi has been a part of Korean life for long time. There are
many kinds of Kimchi, but cabbage Kimchi is considered the best. There are
three steps in making delicious Kimchi.
These
steps include preparation, making, and storing. First, cut Napa cabbage in half
lengthwise, and you then wash all of leaves. Run cool water into a bowl and
sprinkle some salt in it. Then put the cabbage in the salty water and let it
stand for a little while, not too long. Therefore, it gets a thorough rinsing.
A few minutes later, put half of the cabbage on the cutting board, flat side
down. Later, cut a V-shape notch around the stem at the base of cabbage and
remove it. Cut the cabbage in half lengthwise again and cut across it from the
base about one inch wide. Then put those pieces in the bowl. Cut the other half
and add the pieces to the bowl. Next, sprinkle all of them with a layer of
salt. Mix gently with your hands, rather than with a tool (stir with your hands
like you are swimming). As the cabbage is pickled by the salt, the dirty water
inside the cabbage will be drawn out. 5 hours later, wash it out clearly with
cold water and drain.
The
second step is making Kimchi. Chili paste with smashed garlic and ginger is
needed. If desired, add some sliced fruit such as pears, some oysters or
pickled seafood in the chili paste. After the chili paste is prepared, rub it
on the pieces of cabbage and move your hands gently around until all of those
pieces are coated. If there are uncoated pieces, add more chili paste. Later
try one piece. If you feel fantastic, you’re finished in making Kimchi.
The
last step is optional. In Korea, Kimchi is put in a large jar and buried in the
ground. The ground maintains a proper temperature to ferment it. However, this
process depends on individual taste. In other words, Kimchi can be eaten raw or
fermented after storing it for few months in a refrigerator or the ground.

Table Manners

In Korea, using a spoon or chopsticks
is good manners. Finishing a meal before your elders is not good manners.
When pouring wine or any kind of beverage for
elders, use both hands to hold the wine bottle.
When your cup is poured by elders, use both hands
to hold the cup. If you are drinking in front of elders, turn your torso a bit
to the side and drink.
Before the meal, always tell your hostess, "
Jal Muk Get Sup Ni Da."
-I will have a good meal-
(Thank you for the meal.)
After the meal, "Jal
Muk Ut Sup Ni Da."
-I had a good meal -
(That was very good.)
In old times, having meals was the most important
thing to Koreans.
In Korea, people still ask each other "Have
you had lunch (or dinner)?” instead of “How are you?”
Most Koreans love to eat
hot and spicy food. Korea started importing chili peppers from the 18th
century. Koreans eat white Kimchi everyday, instead of red Kimchi.
Chinese and Japanese people use only chopsticks
when eating rice.
However, Koreans use
spoons. When eating rice, lifting a rice bowl close to one's mouth is not
considered good manners in Korea, while it is accepted in China and Japan.
Vacation To New York

I think New York is bigger than Seoul. The buildings
seem bigger, and there seem to be more of them. What a city!
We
went to Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. We had lunch at
Rockefeller Center. The restaurant was outdoors. St.Patrick’s Cathedral is
across the street from Rockefeller Center. It’s a Catholic church. It looks
like the big churches in Europe.
Next day, we went to the Statue of Liberty. Can
you imagine? The statue is 92 meters high! It was a gift to America. What a
present! The French people gave it to the Americans. Even French school
children gave money to pay for it.
The Statue of Liberty is on an island in New York
Harbor. It is a symbol of freedom and hope. Many people emigrated from Europe
to the U.S. The first thing they saw in the U.S was the Statue of Liberty.
You know, New York is a funny place. There are a
lot of small towns in New York. Maybe you’ve heard of some of them. There is
Little Italy, Chinatown, and Greenwich Village. They are near the southern tip
of Manhattan.
Being
in Chinatown is like being in China. It smells of Chinese food, Almost everyone
is Chinese. Everybody speaks Chinese. We had lunch there yesterday. Guess what?
Chajang myun is not Chinese, It’s Korean-Chinese. I asked for it in Chinatown.
But
no one understood me, so I had to change my order. The food was great.
Have you heard of Greenwich Village? It’s on the southern
part of the island, too.
Lots
of artists live there. In the old days, it was a little bit like a slum, so
rents were low. That’s why artists lived there.
Greenwich Village is a very old part of the city.
The streets are not straight, and it’s easy to get lost. We are really enjoying
New York!
Winter Vacation

I
had a good time during last winter vacation. One
day, I played basketball with my sister. The weather was very cold but we stayed
warm
and
played for a long time. Next day, I went to see a movie with my friend. The
movie was "HERO". There were many people watching the movie. We went
out and ate dinner. It was very delicious. Then we went home. It was ten
o'clock when we went to bed. Today was an interesting day. This was my last vacation
in high school. It lasted three months. It was a long time but it meant a lot
to me because next year I will be a freshman in university. From now on, I will
study hard and obey my parents. If my dreams come true, I will help the poor
and needy.
Best Memory Of My Life

The best memory that I had in my life was going on vacation to Ski
resort. I planned to go with all of my friends. There were probably about
fifteen of us going together on the same bus. We woke up early in the morning
at 5:00am to get ready to catch the bus. The bus stopped right in front of my
house, which stopped there for about several minutes. We were going to stay
there for three days. The reason why there were so many people is because we
were going for Christmas vacation, which is on December 24th, 25th,
and the 26th.
Anyways, we got on the bus at 6:30, ready to go. I was so tired,
since I didn’t get any sleep because fifteen of us couldn’t go to sleep. After
one talked, the other started with another subject to talk about, then it went
on and on. On the bus, we all fell asleep. I guessed about two and a half hours
passed. We were there already staring at the white snow. We first reserved our
room. It was a big room. It had to be because we all had to fit in. We all
changed and bought our tickets, and ready to ride!
At 10:00 we started to ski, we started out from the lowest course,
then the next harder one, and then the highest one. We were having fun, until
one of our friends got injured. While we were speeding down the slopes, one of
our friends crashed into a tree. He was seriously hurt. People gathered around
him, and asked if he was okay. He had a broken arm. I could see the bone
sticking out from his clothes. That was when I first knew what happened to
human bones when they’re broken.
After he was hurt, he had to go back to the room, since he didn’t
want to spend his time at hospital during Christmas. The only way for him to
have fun was to stay in the room, watch us skiing. I felt bad because he was
hurt.
We had so much fun there. We laughed at each other when we fell
down but we helped each other out. From this retreat, I learned how important
the friendship was. It they weren’t there with me, I could just have spent time
at home on this fantastic Christmas. Because they were there with me, I had a
chance to have fun. If I can still get reserve rooms for this Christmas, I
would like to go again with all of my friends.
Motorbike

4 years ago, I leaned how to ride a motorbike from someone in Korea.
Since
then, I have been interested in motorbikes. I can’t imagine anything in the
world without it. When I come back home after school, I ride my motorbike. Mine
is small but very fast and big. Every Sunday, I go to the suburbs with people
working at the repair shop to get rid of stress. I hate rain or snow days
because I would get wet or get in an accident.
I have
heard that some people have died recently in motorbike accidents. I stop riding
when I hear about it but I can’t live a day without riding it.
My mother bought me a small motorbike last year. The reason was
that it is easy to go to market and to carry the bags. However, I don’t do what
she wants because I just want to have fun. My friends often say that I’m wild
when I. I always change into a deliveryman during public holidays and Sundays.
My friends ask me to give them a ride to save them their bus fare. Sometimes, I
get angry but I go out for the fresh air.
I have been in a few accidents but they weren’t big, just small. I
know about simple mechanisms so I can fix small problems easily. One advantage
is that there I am never stuck in traffic jam. I can go anywhere. When I ride
it, I don’t feel any stress. One disadvantage is, I cannot ride it on the
highway, I can get wet and it is very cold in the winter. However, in the
summer it is really cool. I like riding it early in the morning because there
are no police officers and cars. I especially like to drive fast, early in the
morning.
Recently, I haven’t ridden because it is cold and slippery I haven’t
touched it at all for one week. I am preparing to sell it because I want to
study. People don’t want to buy it because it is too small so I may have to
keep it. I know that some day I will have a car. I’m just doubtful that I will
still love it at that time. I think I will like it.
The
Importance Of Water

A great part of our earth is water. In fact, continents are huge
islands floating in the ocean. Here are some facts about the sea.
Look at a map of the world, and you can see how the sea covers
three-quarters of the earth.
Some parts of the sea are very deep. Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world, is 9
kilometers high. If it were put in the sea at the deepest point place, there
would still be 2 kilometers of water above it.
If you taste the sea water, you find it is salty. Rivers, flow in
to the sea, and carry salt from the land to the sea. Some parts of the sea can
be saltier than others. The Dead Sea, for example, is very salty. Because it is
so salty, swimmers cannot sink. No wonder fish cannot live it.
All sorts of sea animals live in the ocean―from little fish to huge whales. Some live near the surface of the
water. Others live deep down. Some are thin. Others are fat. There are millions
of tiny living things that float in the sea. They are too small for you to see.
Many fish live in the sea.
The sea can be very cold. Divers who dive deep know that. At the
surfaces water may warm. As the diver goes deeper and deeper, the sea become
colder and colder.
Another thing happens in the deep sea. When a diver goes too deep,
the water presses down on him. So divers have to wear clothes that are made of metal.
People who want to go really deep need a special boat. This boat must be strong
enough to keep them safe even at the deepest part of the sea. They can go down
in the boat until they are 11 kilometers underwater!
About
My Friends

One can’t live without friends. No matter where you are or what you do, you can’t live
without friends. There are many kinds of friends! Some are interesting and humorous. In contrast: some are shy
and serious. One who is cheerful
will have a lot of friends, but one who is shy will not have a lot of friends
around him.
Of course, friends can get along with each
other only when their personalities match. I think cheery people never need to
worry that there are no friends around them. The most important thing is they
must have good personalities.
I think that a truly good friend is who
can help me out when I am depressed, and, I can share the happiness with them
when I am happy.
Not all friends are good; there are also some
bad friends. If you meet good friends, they cannot only help your schoolwork
but help you in all ways. Elders have said that we must associate with good
friends, then your work will be improved. Now I also think their sayings are
right.
I have a lot of friends. Among them, I
have close friends with whom I often quarrel, but I like them anyways. Our
friendship is more valuable after those quarrels.
There are few days left before our
graduation. I think that from now on, I will not quarrel with them instead I
will get well with them. That will be our precious memory.
These days I feel many things about my
friends and my, future, etc. Of course, if I get along well with my friends will
be a good thing. But if we know too much about each other, it will be easy to be
disappointed. With the graduation days coming, I has been thinking too much
about my friends.
There is no much time to be with my
friends, and not much time to be with them even when we attend the same classes.
After we graduate, I will be attending Korea University, where I will meet new
friends. I think it’s good thing to meet new friends with different backgrounds.
Of course, I will not forget my high school friends whom I love. During the six
years of high school and the six years of dormitory life, we have been very
close friends. I love all of my friends.
Diary

One day, it is afternoon, I stopped at a fast - food restaurant and
ordered lunch. A young woman walked in with a boy, aged five or
six. They had no sooner sat down
to order. A man, slightly hunched and wearing a tattered coat, came in. He inched toward a littered table and
slowly examined each of the boxes, looking for leftovers. When he picked up a cold
French fry and put it into his mouth, the boy whispered to his mother, "
Mom, that man is eating other's food! " " He is hungry and doesn't have any money, " the
mother whispered back.
The boy asked, “Can we but him a burger? I think he’ll take only what
others don’t want.” When the waitress handed the mother and son two take out
bags, they approached the door to leave. The boy suddenly removed a burger from
his bag and took a little bite from it. Then he ran back to where the man sat
and placed it on the table before the vagrant. Surprised, he looked gratefully
at the big as he turned and disappeared. As I left the restaurant, I saw that
blue sky was coming out from under leaden clouds.

Today was a very happy day for me, because
I went to Daegu to visit my grandparents.
It was my grandmother’s
birthday so she invited us to her
birthday party. Grandmother made a lot of
yummy food for us, like fried chicken, soup, and other kinds of Chinese food. My
mother took a picture of us while my grandfather was cutting the cake. We all
had a good
time in Daegu, but the sad thing was that we stayed in my grandfather’s house
for only 3 days, so my grandparents felt lonely and sad. Next time if I go to
Daegu, I want to stay with them longer.

Friday, January 3rd, 2003
Today I got up early in the morning and
got ready to go out, because I had a date with my
friends. We met in SHIN-CHON and we went to the movies, had lunch and did our homework.
We gathered at a friend’s house to study.
After we finished our homework, we went to Ewha
University and went shopping for clothes. We went to an
internet cafe and had a good time there. We said good-bye
and I went home that night.
We were busy but had a good time today.

Saturday,
December 28th
Today my family will start our tour of Thailand which will last for 5
days: 4 days in
Phuket and 1 day in Bangkok. On the first day, we are going to visit an island and go swimming. I am not sure what we are going to do for the rest of the
time, but on the last
day, we are
going to return to Korea from Bangkok.
Last night I returned from
Yesan. At dawn, my family rode the bus and arrived at the airport.
The plane departed at 9:00am. The service wasn’t that good, in fact it
was terrible. I hope this journey will
end safely.

Today I went to the
movies with my brother. We saw "Harry Potter and the Chamber of
Secrets". This is the second Harry Potter movie, directed by Chris Colombus. I
really like Harry Potter; I am his fan. Since winter vacation started,
this is the first time I went to the movies, so I felt more excited and happy
than other days.
Vacation is always a happy time for everyone. You can make a lot of beautiful memories and have many experiences. I will
never forget them. That's why I really like vacation.

Friday, February 14, 2003
Today is Valentine’s Day. I did my homework at
home. I still have two subjects left
to do – English and Chinese. English homework needs
to be done on the computer. I switched on my computer. Suddenly, there was a
very loud sound from the CPU. I was very shocked. I thought my computer had
gone crazy, so I asked some people on the internet. They told me it was a small
matter. The sound was from a fan, called the cooling fan. When the cooling fan is covered
with dust, it will make noise. So they told me to clean the cooling fan. I had never opened
a computer before. There was no one with me, and I had to repair my computer. I used a
screwdriver to open the computer. This was the first time I saw the inside of a computer.
There are a lot of electric wires and unknown objects inside. Finally, I found the cooling fan. I took it off and cleaned it with care. After
doing that, I put it in its’ original place and closed the computer case.
After cleaning the cooling fan, my computer made no sound. I was so proud of
myself since I did it my own.

My sister and I got up very early this morning,
because we wanted to visit our grandparents and uncle at Munsan. My father
drove us there. When we got there, my grandfather was very happy to see us. He cooked a lot of delicious food for us to eat. After eating
our food, we visited our grandmother. She was sick and lying on a bed in the room, we are still very
worried about her. We hope she will recover soon, and we will try our best to help her
during these few days.

Today I went to a beauty
salon with my friends. I got
my hair cut and
straightened. I have curly hair so I have to straighten my hair before school
starts. It took a long time to
do my hair.
After that, we went to Pizza Hut. I don’t like pizza very much. It was very delicious, as I hadn’t had pizza for a long time.
We like singing, so we
went to a karaoke room. I don’t like singing.
However, all of my friends like to sing. I often have to follow them to karaoke
room. As time passed, I have
become more interested in singing. Now I like singing
very much. Yesterday was my birthday. My friend, ChunYan gave me a book.
It was the book that I really wanted to read. I joked that I
wanted her to buy me that book. I didn’t think
that she would really give it to me. I was very happy.

2003-01-08
Wed.
This morning I
went to study English. There are three different classes each day: listening,
grammar, and reading. Since it is at a very high level, there is a lot of
homework everyday! Today we had an extra class, a speaking class. The teacher
was Canadian who had been
teaching English for many years. We introduced ourselves and talked a lot about
our hobbies and personal experiences. And I heard big news today! The TOEFL
test will change this year, it had changed to CBT(computer basic test) last
year, but it will change to IBT, which has listening, reading and speaking. The
structure is different and will change to speaking; I was surprised but a
little bit happy, because my speaking is better than my grammar. I will take
the CBT first, and then take the IBT. I hope I will get a high score on both of
the tests!
My Future
H3-2 孫鳳德
I am going to write about my hopes for the future. I
have many dreams. I would like to be a composer. I want to be the best
composer. I like music and hope to make good music. I want to amuse people because I will be really a great composer. I like
R&B. I want to make R&B music.
Good composers are important to people with
difficult lives because good music can revitalize and give hope. Also, I want
to compose fun music for foreigners. Composition is very difficult. I will try
hard to make my dream come true. This is my first ambition.
My second dream is to be a teacher. I want to teach
my students to be well rounded. Teachers find it very hard to counsel students
nowadays. However, I wouldn’t make students take my advice. I think being a
teacher is a very difficult profession. But I would overcome difficulty for my
dream.

Understanding
H3-2 邢黛麗
I've recently noticed the troubles that
happen in many relationships. Amazingly I found out that many people fight over
the same subjects over and over again. I mean they are often found to fight with
each other for the same reasons. I also noticed that they even don't know why
they are fighting. Including me, many people see the things from their own
viewpoints. I thought that most of them even didn't know the differences
between themselves. They thought others were trying to oppose them if they didn't
go along with them. Most of them didn't even try to understand the gap between
them which has been made through circumstances, feelings and individualities.
For example, this would be nice example. There's one woman who doesn't realize
the difference between the two sexes. Usually men tend to be simple about
woman. Let me assume that the woman has a boyfriend. The relationship moves on
and the woman starts to feel that the man doesn't like to give her things like
presents and flowers. So the woman gets angry. The man starts to get confused
about the blame. And the worst case, this relationship would end. But if the
couple understood each other more than that, they would soon realize the
different styles and tastes of men and women. It is important to know that this
world consists of many kinds of individualities.
I can present more examples but I think
the above is the most appropriate one. I wish everyone including myself think a
bit ahead before they act.
About My Best Friend
H3-2 劉玉萍
My best friend's name is Joong Guen. She and I
sat next to each other for 3 years at school. I am not sure when we became
friends. I met her when I was in 8th grade. She came from Taiwan at that time.
My first impression of her wasn't good. Joong Guen is tall, skinny, and has big
eyes and a white face. She is so pretty.
As I think back, I remember fighting and
reconciling with her many times. One time, I fought with her for small things.
We didn't talk to each other for few weeks. The fact that I couldn't talk to
her for long time drove me crazy. But whenever I saw her, she looked fine. I
didn't want to go to school because of the fight I had with her. One day, Joon
Guen came to school late and I had no idea why she came so late. One of my
classmates told me that she came late. She felt so bad about the fight that we
had and she just played around in the Cyber cafe for a while. I felt so bad
about that and I said sorry to her first and she said sorry too. We hugged and
cried for a while. I think we fought about so many little things because we
were too young.
Her future and mine are so different. Joong Guen
is interested in make-up, but I am interested in teaching young kids. I love
young kids so much that I want to be a kindergarten teacher. Since our dreams are so different, I kind of worry
that if our friendship will end. I hope our friendship will last forever. I
think our friendship will last a long time. I didn't know I would meet such good
friend in my high school years. I now understand when adults say that friends
met in high school are real friends. Even though we fight a lot,
We become better friends again. I want to tell Joong Guen that I don't
know what will happen to us in the future, but I really want to keep this
friendship and even though we fight, I am always going to be her good friend. I
know many people have good friends as I do. I hope everyone will keep his or
her friendships forever.
Pop
Songs
H3-3 馬守東
I like music. I like
Korean music, and Pop songs. I like all music, especially pop song. Pop songs help
me study, because pop songs are all in English. I can speak Korean and Chinese
but I can’t speak English. So I must listen pop songs.
I like pop songs. So I like many pop singers. The
singers I like are Westlife, Backstreet Boys, Coyote Ugly, Britney Spears, Emimen,
Avril Lavigne, Wham, stratovarius, Christian Wunderlich, N Sync, Bon Jovi,
Mariah carey, R. Kelly, Steelheart, Nelly, Radiohead, Destiny`s Child, Robbie Williams,
Andrea Bocelli, etc… I don’t like Michael Jackson. Why don’t I like him? Because
he had plastic surgery. His face looks like that of a monster. My favorite
singer is Emimen. He is a very good hip-hop Singer~~~ I like to listen to his songs.
Studying English is very hard for me, but English
is necessary for my future. So I have to listen to many English songs to
improve my English.
2002 Korean Series
H3-3 馮繼承
I have liked baseball since 1995. My favorite
baseball team is Doosan When I watch baseball games I feel so good and I can
play baseball very well. Sometimes I go to the Jamsil stadium to watch games.
Now a day, my greatest concern is the Korean series. The 2002 Korean series has
ended heroically in the Daegu stadium.
LG and Samsung were playing a game in the 2002
Korean series. I am Doosan fan but Doosan didn’t make in to the play-offs, Samsung
is Doosan's rival, so I cheered for LG to win series. Both teams’ players did
their best to play well. The players and spectators were united and they gave
the team confidence.
On Nov.10, 2002, the sixth game had started, LG was
winning, soon afterward Samsung caught up to LG. I hoped that LG would win the
series this year. In this game most of the both plays were in the second half
of the ninth inning, Samsung hit two home runs and did serious damage to LG and then LG lost to Samsung. The
score was 10-9 for Samsung. In fact, LG had a good game, but it fell short of
my expectations, however I thought the game was wonderful.
Lastly, I hope the 2003 Korean series will comes
soon and Doosan makes it to the play-offs next time.
Reasons for Learning English

Without a doubt, English
is the most useful and important instrument for people. English is no longer a
foreign language today. It is called the "international language". We
can infer how important English is only by the word "international".
Because of the consequence of English, almost all people in
non-English-speaking countries are learning English. Korea is no exception.
Schools start teaching English from the third year of elementary school. Some
parents even teach their kids English before they can speak their own language.
English is also a compulsory subject in universities. Why are there so many
people learning English so enthusiastically? Here are some reasons: to
communicate with people all over the world; to be employed more easily; to get
a lot of information.
Communicating with people all over the world is
inevitable today. It can make us more knowledgeable, teach us how to accept the cultural
differences and help us to be more cosmopolitan. If there were no international
language, many problems would arise. Let's imagine that there are five people
from different countries assemble for a meeting and they can only speak their
own languages. How can the meeting be hold? It's almost impossible for them to
learn the five languages. There is one solution - English, the most widely used
language. By using English, they can talk to each other what they want to say
and get what they need with no problems.
Since the uses of English are so broad, many companies
take their applicants' English skills as the highest priority item among their
abilities. If you are competent in English, you have an advantage over your
competitors. In addition, after you're employed, you can gain many privileges.
For example, you may have more chances of promotion, you can be sent to
overseas branches...etc. Learning
English may be a good way to succeed.
Above all, you can get a
lot of information in various fields. Nowadays nearly all people regard on line
searches as the best way to get information. Most of the world's famous sites
are presented in English first, such as Yahoo and MSN. It is also the case for
all computer programs. Besides that, famous news channels like CNN and NBC are
all in English, too. Additionally, most of the publications of studies are also
written in English. Can you imagine how much information you would lose if you
couldn’t speak English?
In other words, English in
related to every part of our lives. English is indispensable for us to live in
the internationalized society. Studying English gives you many opportunities
and uncountable benefits in your life!
